DUCC contributors

The DUCC project has produced nearly 50 journal articles, WIDER Working Papers, and reports and has engaged nearly 100 researchers across the world. Below we mention only some of the core contributors to the project.

Finn Tarp is the Director of UN University's World Institute for Development Economics Research (UNU-WIDER), Helsinki, Finland. He is also a professor of development economics at the Department of Economics at the University of Copenhagen. He founded the Development Economics Research Group (DERG) in 1996, and since then has co-ordinated DERG’s extensive academic research and teaching activities alongside a large portfolio of externally funded development economics research and capacity-building projects. Professor Tarp has recently been appointed member of the Council of Eminent Persons (CEP) advising the Chief Economist of the World Bank.

Channing Arndt has 25 years of experience in development economics with seven years combined resident experience in Morocco and Mozambique. He is author or co-author of more than 100 professional publications. He has an established reputation for effectively building institutional capacity in Mozambique, South Africa, Morocco, Vietnam and within the framework of the African Economic Research Consortium. He has substantial research management experience including leadership of interdisciplinary teams.

Kenneth Strzepek is Professor of Civil, Environmental and Architectural Engineering, Visiting Professor of Economics and Affiliated Professor in College of Architecture and Planning at the University of Colorado at Boulder. His work includes applications of operations research, engineering economics, micro-economics and environmental economics to a broad range applications: from project scale to national and global investment policy studies.
 
Yohannes Gebretsadik has participated in large-scale research projects since 2003. His focus is mainly within the Nile Basin, in areas of flood protection and early warning, transboundary joint multipurpose projects, irrigation and drainage, watershed management, Basin wide Hydrologic Studies, and development of planning and decision support tools. He specializes in analysis involving Hydrologic and Water resources systems modeling, GIS and remote sensing analysis. He is currently pursuing his PhD in Water Resources Engineering at the University of Colorado at Boulder.
 
Charles Fant specializes in large-scale biophysical and energy modeling for policy decisions related to the changing climate. Dr. Fant has worked on projects with the World Bank Group), Industrial Economics (IEc), the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), the Joint Program on the Science and Policy of Global Change at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), and COWI (a Danish consulting firm). These projects have involved working with countries including Morocco, Ethiopia, Kenya, Niger, Ghana, Mozambique, Botswana, Vietnam, Brazil, South Africa, and Macedonia, as well as the Zambezi River Basin and the Congo River Basin.

Adam Schlosser is currently a Principal Research Scientist in the Center for Global Change Science, and also serves as the Assistant Director of Research for the Joint Program at MIT. Prior to his appointment at MIT, Dr Schlosser was an Associate Research Scientist at the NASA Goddard Space Flight Center (2001-2003), a Research Scientist at the Center for Ocean Land Atmosphere Studies (1997-2001). He conducted his postdoctoral work (1995-1997) at NOAA’s Geophysical Fluid Dynamics Laboratory (GFDL) in Princeton. His primary interests are the modeling and prediction of global hydrologic, ecologic, and biogeochemical change using the MIT’s Integrated Global Systems Model (IGSM). 
 
Alyssa McCluskey is a water resource engineering consultant with a background in global water and food modeling. She is currently a Senior Research Associate at the University of Colorado, Climate and Civil Systems Group (CLICS). In the past fifteen years, she has worked for: the World Bank, International Food Policy Research Institute, International Water Management Institute, United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), Stratus Consulting Inc., International Institute of Applied Systems Analysis, Stockholm Environment Institute, Center for Environmental Economics and Policy in Africa, and the University of Colorado. 
 
James Thurlow is a development economist whose research focuses on the interactions between policies, economic growth and poverty, primarily using computable general equilibrium and micro-simulation modeling. Past research focuses on evaluating public investments and policies; rural, regional and urban development; and climate change and other external risks. He has worked with governments and researchers throughout Sub-Saharan Africa, and in Bangladesh, Peru, Tunisia and Vietnam.
 
Rob Davies is a Zimbabwean economist and professor. He was associated with the University of Zimbabwe for more than 30 years. He has also taught at Universities in South Africa, the UK and the US. He is currently a research associate with the HSRC and works closely with TIPS, both in South Africa. He has written on a wide range of issues related to the Zimbabwean political economy.
 
Paul Chinowsky is an Associate Professor in the Department of Civil, Environmental, and Architectural Engineering at the University of Colorado. Prior to joining the Colorado faculty, he was an Associate Professor at Georgia Tech and a computer-aided design and knowledge-based system consultant for Stone & Webster Engineering in Boston. Professor Chinowsky received his Bachelor and Master of Architecture degrees from the California Polytechnic University at San Luis Obispo and his PhD in civil engineering from Stanford University.
