50 years of research: What do we know about the impact of aid?
On 4 April 2018, Finn Tarp, Director of UNU-WIDER, delivers a presentation covering 50 years of research on the impact of aid at Norad in Oslo, Norway.
‘Does assistance work?’ is often a topic of debate, and even more so in recent years. This is also true even in the Nordic countries, which have traditionally been notable sources of development and humanitarian aid. The presentation will introduce evidence on the impact of aid, from research conducted by UNU-WIDER and its partners. Careful assessment of available research provides a for a much more coherent, balanced and convincing understanding of the topic than often thought.
The morning session brings together policy makers from various Norwegian ministries, representatives from the financial sector, academia, media and larger NGOs. Furthermore, the meeting is open to the general public. Following the presentation, Professor Tarp is available to discuss the topic further.
The meeting will be opened by Jon Lomøy, Director-General at Norad with Eva Bratholm, Director of External Affairs (Norad) chairing the event.
Event invitation availabe on Norad event page [in Norwegian].
