Amina Ebrahim attends ICTD Workshop on Tax and Informal Economies in Africa
On 18-21 February 2025, UNU-WIDER Research Fellow Amina Ebrahim participates to a Workshop on Tax and Informal Economies in Africa organized by the International Centre for Tax & Development (ICTD) in Akosombo, Ghana. Dr. Ebrahim gives remarks in the opening session on the state of research on informality and taxes.
The workshop is held in collaboration with Women in Informal Employment: Globalizing and Organizing (WIEGO) and the African Tax Administration Forum (ATAF), and with the support of the Ghana Revenue Authority. The event brings together 80 participants from over 25 countries, including 16 revenue authorities, ministries of finance, civil society organizations, activists, and academics.
Sessions are covering key policy and administrative focus areas, including registration and presumptive tax regimes, while also focusing on the distributional and equity dynamics of informal sector taxation, how policymakers may better work with informal workers, and the politics of implementation.
