Theme: 2014-15
The Association for the Study of Religion, Economics and Culture (ASREC) held a conference at the University of Copenhagen on 16-17 May 2016.
The programme of the conference brought together a variety of academics and engaged them with questions of economics, religion, and culture across the social sciences. For this european edition of the event, the keynote speakers were Professor Oded Galor from Brown University, and Professor Hans-Joachim Voth from the University of Zurich.
UNU-WIDER held a special session on ‘Discrimination’ on the first day of the conference chaired by Research Fellow Smriti Sharma. WIDER Working Papers were presented as part of the project Discrimination and affirmative action - what have we learnt so far?
Juliana Silva Goncalves from WZB Berlin opened the session by presenting the paper Affirmative action and effort choice: An experimental investigation.
Vikram Pathania from University of Sussex continues with his presentation on the paper For whom does the phone (not) ring? Discrimination in the rental housing market in Delhi, India.
Eva O. Arceo-Gomez from CIDE presented the paper Do labour market conditions affect the extent of gender discrimination?
Finally, Smriti Sharma from UNU-WIDER presented the paper Caste differences in behaviour and personality: Evidence from India.
