Authors' workshop: The developer’s dilemma: structural transformation, inequality, and inclusive growth
The developer’s dilemma: structural transformation, inequality, and inclusive growth, which is a sub-project of our Varieties of structural transformation project, aims to produce a book addressing the structural transformation – inclusive growth relationship.
The book will look at how to manage the tension or trade-off between structural change and inclusive growth, a crucial contemporary question for developing countries. It will also cover the achievement of the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
This project component is focused on the dilemma now facing many developing countries – how could countries manage the trade-off between sustaining high economic growth rates that require structural change and typically drive up disparities while at the same time making that growth inclusive, which entails steady or even falling inequality to maximize the rate of poverty reduction?
This workshop will facilitate discussion on the early draft book chapters.
