Enrico Nichelatti on the potential of Universal Basic Income to mitigate shocks in sub-Saharan African countries
Freiburg Institute for Basic Income Studies (FIBRIS) organises a hybrid seminar on 17 May 2023. UNU-WIDER Research Assistant Enrico Nichelatti presents his upcoming research paper The potential of Universal Basic Income to mitigate shocks in sub-Saharan African countries: evidence from Uganda and Zambia in the seminar.
Enrico Nichelatti's paper investigates the effectiveness of reducing poverty and inequality in sub-Saharan Africa during pre-crisis and crisis shocks using a case study of Uganda and Zambia and applying a microsimulation analysis.
The seminar is attended by PhD students and professors working on Universal Basic Income.
The presentation is part of UNU-WIDER's SOUTHMOD – simulating tax and benefit policies for development project. SOUTHMOD is part of UNU-WIDER's research and capacity development programme on domestic revenue mobilization (DRM), funded by the Norwegian Agency for Development Co-operation (Norad).
