On 14 December, Professor Finn Tarp, Director of UNU-WIDER, will take part in the inauguration of the Institute of New Structural Economics (INSE) at Peking University in Beijing, China. The inauguration will include a workshop on international development, which will explore new directions of development thinking and look for concrete solutions to promote economic transformation in developing countries. A panel discussion on the trends and thoughts in international development will be organized as part of the workshop, where Professor Tarp will give a presentation on UNU-WIDER’s work on the practice of industrial policy.
The inauguration event will be preceded on 13 December by a breakfast keynote by Julian Gewirtz, Academy Scholar at Harvard's Weatherhead Center for International Affairs, who will speak on the topic ‘Economics and 40 Years of Reform in China’. The event will be followed by a one-day conference where Professor Tarp will contribute to a session on the history of thought in development economics.
