Finnish launch of the World Bank report 'Poverty, Prosperity, and Planet: Pathways Out of the Polycrisis'

Global poverty reduction has hit an alarming roadblock, with progress slowing to a near standstill. The COVID-19 pandemic, conflicts, and climate crises have combined into a 'polycrisis', leaving 8.5% of the global population trapped in extreme poverty. Current forecasts warn it could take decades to eradicate extreme poverty unless urgent, coordinated action is taken.

How can we recover from this lost decade, eradicate extreme poverty, and accelerate pathways toward prosperity? Join the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland and UNU-WIDER for the Finnish launch of the World Bank’s report Poverty, Prosperity, and Planet: Pathways Out of the Polycrisis. This report presents new evidence on the progress made toward these critical goals, and highlights the pathways for accelerating global development, with tailored priorities for countries at varying levels of poverty, income, and environmental vulnerability.

This event will provide a platform for discussing the report’s findings, their implications for global development, and Finland’s role in advancing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The event also coincides with UNU-WIDER’s 40th anniversary, celebrating its longstanding partnership with the World Bank in tackling the world’s most pressing challenges.

NOTE: As space is limited, we request that you register for this event by Friday, 21 February. Guests are asked to bring their IDs.
