New insights on inequality and economic transformation – Revisiting the Kuznets Curve at 70

As part of the ongoing research project Inequality and structural transformation, UNU-WIDER convenes a 1.5-day internal workshop to bring together the project’s researchers to present and discuss their findings. The event features presentations from distinguished scholars such as Ravi Kanbur, Nancy Birdsall, Kunal Sen, Andy Sumner, Timothy Kohler, and Arief Yusuf. These and other experts present their research, engage in critical discussions, and receive valuable feedback from their peers.

The workshop commences with a keynote address by Nancy Birdsall, titled ‘Plutocrats and populism –  Limits to Kuznets’ transformation in a global economy’. The presentation sets the stage for a series of insightful sessions exploring the complexities of inequality and structural transformation in today’s global context.
