Presentation at University of Luxembourg ‘October Days for Sustainable Development’
Finn Tarp, Director of UNU-WIDER, gave a presentation in which he discussed what are the most suitable type of indicators for policy analysis. He stressed that while important progress has been made in the Millennium Development Goals since 2000, the development job is far from done. Facing the new SDG’s, it is crucial to emphasize the need developing indicators, and data collection capacity on a national level in order to follow the progress on the goals. Thinking about the goal-specific indicators and their measurement is key for attaining accurate data on the progress, and thereby for formulating effective policies towards achieving the goals.
The forum brought together experts in the analysis and evaluation of the SDG’s and public policies, as well as finance and environment experts. During the forum a series of assessments and recommendations were formulated, and presented to policy makers and other parties that took part in the actual negotiations of the SDGs.
