SOUTHMOD work presented at an ODI seminar
Overseas Development Institute (ODI) organises a hybrid event on 29 June 2023 to present the findings of ODI’s recent work on the role of tax and transfers in addressing income inequality across countries with different income levels. The in person event takes place in London.
One of the speakers of the event is UNU-WIDER Non-Resident Senior Research Fellow Jukka Pirttilä, who will share findings of UNU-WIDER's SOUTHMOD project.
This event is aimed for policymakers from countries of varying levels of development, multi-disciplinary researchers, and stakeholders shaping the debate and policies in this area. The event aims to contribute to the debate on the design of equitable tax systems (building on the Addis Tax Initiative agenda) and explore ways in which countries can expand social protection coverage in relation to the Sustainable Development Goals.
Other speakers of the event include Francesca Bastagli, Head of Research and Policy, Fondazione Agnelli; Laura Abramovsky, Research Associate, ODI and IFS; Susan Harkness, Professor, School for Policy Studies, University of Bristol; Kyle McNabb, Research Associate, ODI; Miguel Niño-Zarazúa, Senior Lecturer in Economics, SOAS; Andara Kamara, Economist, African Development Bank; and Alvin Mosioma, Division Director, Fiscal Justice, OSF Global Programs.
Jukka Pirttilä's presentation is part of UNU-WIDER's SOUTHMOD – simulating tax and benefit policies for development project. SOUTHMOD is part of UNU-WIDER's research and capacity development programme on domestic revenue mobilization (DRM), funded by the Norwegian Agency for Development Co-operation (Norad).
