The 75th Annual Congress of the International Institute of Public Finance was organized at the University of Glasgow on 21-23 August 2019. The topic of the Congress was 'Taxation and Mobility'.

As part of the programme Maria Jouste, UNU-WIDER Research assistant, gave a presentation on 'Do tax administrative interventions targeted to small businesses improve tax compliance and revenue collection? Evidence from Ugandan tax administrative data'. In her presentation Maria Jouste shared research findings which showed that taxpayer registration campaigns and easier filing form have increased formalization of small businesses in Uganda.

Jukka Pirttilä, UNU-WIDER Non-resident senior research fellow, gave a presentation in the Congress on 'The effects of personal income tax reform on taxable income in Uganda'.

The audience of the conference covered over 500 academics from all over the world.

The presentations were part of the collaborative research project between Uganda Revenue Authority and UNU-WIDER.
