UNU-WIDER tax research presented at the CSAE Conference
The annual conference of the University of Oxford's Centre for the Study of African Economies is organised 19-21 March 2023 in Oxford, UK. This year the theme of the conference is Economic Development in Africa. UNU-WIDER Research Assistants Enrico Nichelatti and Kwabena Adu-Ababio and Zambia Revenue Authority Senior Economist Evaristo Mwale give a presentation at the conference.
The conference brings together colleagues from across the development economics community to discuss Africa. Enrico Nichelatti presents his study A fiscal approach to the social contract in sub-Saharan African countries on 20 March in the panel session 4 on political economy. Kwabena Adu-Ababio presents his study Assessing the impact of an intervention to withhold value-added tax in Zambia on 21 March in the panel session 6 on firms. Evaristo Mwale presents the study Estimating tax gaps in Zambia.
The presentations are part of UNU-WIDER's Building up efficient and fair tax systems – lessons based on administrative tax data project, which is one workstream under UNU-WIDER's programme on Domestic Revenue Mobilization (DRM). The DRM programme is financed by the Norwegian development co-operation agency Norad.
