Work-in-progress meeting on tax research collaboration in Zambia
As part of the Building up efficient and fair tax systems – lessons based on administrative tax data project, a work-in progress meeting was held online between UNU-WIDER, Zambia Institute for Policy Analysis & Research (ZIPAR) and Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA).
The collaboration on tax administrative data started recently. The topic discussed in this meeting was the state of data extraction from ZRA for empirical tax research. The meeting was attended by ZRA and ZIPAR personnel who wanted to know the extent of progress and summaries of the data extracted so far.
The event gave all parties the chance to listen to a short presentation from UNU-WIDER and ask questions about the three sets of tax returns; Corporate Income Tax (CIT), Value Added Tax (VAT) and Pay As You Earn (PAYE) made available for research purposes. Through the Memorandum of Understanding signed with ZRA they were fulfilling their mandate by making the data available. This is a major achievement for the project as this data will facilitate the research progress.
The Building up efficient and fair tax systems – lessons based on administrative tax data project is part of UNU-WIDER's programme on Domestic Revenue Mobilization (DRM). The DRM programme is financed by the Norwegian development co-operation agency Norad.
