ZANMOD training
As part of the SOUTHMOD project, this workshop is designed to train government officials in effectively using ZANMOD, a tax-benefit microsimulation model specifically developed for Zanzibar. This three-day training is the second event on ZANMOD, following its successful launch and introductory training in October 2023.
The workshop aims to equip 20 government officials with a comprehensive understanding of ZANMOD’s functionalities, empowering them to utilize the model for in-depth policy analysis. Participants will gain insights into the ZANMOD simulation tool’s components, advantages, and applications, with a special focus on applying the model to analyze and design policies in taxation and social protection.
ZANMOD is a tax-benefit microsimulation model developed under the SOUTHMOD project, a UNU-WIDER initiative focused on domestic revenue mobilization (DRM) with funding from the Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation (Norad). By combining household-level data on income and expenditures with detailed tax and benefit legislation, ZANMOD allows policymakers and researchers to simulate the impacts of different policy scenarios on poverty, inequality, and government revenues.
Through ZANMOD, users can model hypothetical reforms to Zanzibar's tax-benefit system, estimate beneficiary numbers, and analyze the characteristics of prospective recipients. Additionally, ZANMOD enables users to simulate potential income tax and social security reforms, providing critical insights into budgetary impacts and helping inform policy decisions.
