Development Today highlights new UNU-WIDER guidebook

UNU-WIDER policy guidebook 'Deals and development in fragile and conflict-affected states' published earlier this month has been featured in Development Today.

The journal interviewed UNU-WIDER Director Kunal Sen for the article entitled How to navigate cronyism and corruption in fragile states: a guidebook, published on 24 June 2021.

In the interview Sen, who is also a co-author of the guidebook, explains that the purpose of the book is to provide agencies with a systematic way to think through their activities in this difficult environment.

The article focuses on the role of development finance institutions (DFIs) in supporting fragile states. According to Kunal Sen, DFIs have an important role to play in supporting fragile states and in choosing the types of firms they invest in.

‘DFIs should not purely look for the investment potential but also think about what a company can do to get the country out of fragility. Therefore, supporting the right firms is important for a DFI’, he says.

Development Today is an independent online journal specialising on political, business and environmental issues related to Nordic and multilateral development assistance.
