Data on firms in Mozambique’s manufacturing sector now available

The Mozambican manufacturing firms database provides reliable and detailed information on over 700 companies operating in the manufacturing sector in Mozambique. The latest version of the database, containing data collected in 2012 and 2017, can be downloaded from UNU-WIDER’s data pages.

Access data

The data covers micro, small, medium-sized and large companies across seven of Mozambique’s provinces: Nampula, Tete, Manica, Sofala, Gaza, Maputo Província and Maputo Cidade. It includes disaggregated data on company performance, history and employment, as well as detailed economic accounts data and special observations on the business environment in which the companies operate.

The database is based on the data collected during the 2017 and 2012 surveys of Mozambican manufacturing firms. The 2017 survey, which was carried out under the Inclusive growth in Mozambique – scaling up research and capacity programme, built on the 2012 results collected with the technical assistance of the University of Copenhagen.

About the database

The database is a significant resource for anyone interested in examining the performance of Mozambique’s manufacturing sector and its different subsectors over time, comparing development at the province level, and looking at the challenges faced by micro-, small- and medium-sized companies.

While the database is not representative of Mozambique’s entire manufacturing sector, it sheds light on the nature of the country’s business landscape and aims to contribute to the development of policy tools to support industrial growth and transformation in Mozambique.

The database, currently hosted by UNU-WIDER, aims to improve the amount and quality of data available on Mozambican manufacturing firms, and it will be updated when new data becomes available.
