Rachel Gisselquist at Expert Group Meetings of the 2021 United Nations High Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development

Rachel Gisselquist will take part in Expert Group Meetings (EGMs) on 19–20 May 2021, in preparation for the 2021 United Nations High Level Political Forum (HLPF) on Sustainable Development. Rachel is a Senior Research Fellow and expert on inequality who will join the EGMs to help inform the thematic reviews for this year’s HLPF, which focus on the achievement of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

The EGMs bring together a multi-stakeholder group of experts from academia, civil society, government experts participating in their own capacity, and UN system technical colleagues. Participants will assess progress and challenges to achieving the in-focus SDGs in the context of the broader 2030 Agenda; consider how COVID-19 response and recovery efforts can contribute to achieving these SDGs; identify particular areas of concern and opportunities for transformation; and suggest partnerships and ways forward during the decade of action to mitigate trade-offs, harness synergies, and leave no one behind.

Rachel Gisselquist has been invited to attend an SDG-specific parallel session to discuss SDGs 1, 2, 3, 8, 10, 12, 13, and 16 on 19 May 2021 and plenary sessions on cross-cutting issues which follow on 19–20 May 2021. The plenary sessions will focus on ‘Ending poverty in all its dimensions, enhancing human well-being and building resilience’, ‘Transforming economies to support the SDGs and restore the balance with nature’, and ‘Building more just and equitable societies’.

The overall theme of this year’s HLPF, to be held 6–15 July 2021, is ‘Sustainable and resilient recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic that promotes the economic, social and environmental dimensions of sustainable development: building an inclusive and effective path for the achievement of the 2030 Agenda in the context of the decade of action and delivery for sustainable development.’
