Second training on UGAMOD – a tax-benefit microsimulation model for Uganda
The aim of this virtual event is to introduce participants to the most recent version of UGAMOD, with a view to promoting its use for evidence-based policy making among government officials. This is the first full online training under the SOUTHMOD project.
The invited participants, alltogether 12 persons, consist of representatives from the entities such as Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development; Uganda Bureau of Statistics; Economic Policy Research Center; and Makerere University.
In addition to providing an overview of the model, the event will include several exercises which can be undertaken jointly with another participant. Attendees will finish with an appreciation of how to navigate and interpret the UGAMOD user interface; how to run UGAMOD; how to build and implement a basic policy reform; and how to interpret the output using Statistics Presenter.
The course had been intended as an in-person event, as took place in 2019. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic the course has been converted into an online course for participants to undertake remotely from their office or from home via the Zoom application.
About UGAMOD
UNU-WIDER, the University of Essex in the UK, and SASPRI have embarked on a collaboration called SOUTHMOD, to promote tax-benefit microsimulation modelling in developing countries using the EUROMOD tax-benefit microsimulation software.
As part of the SOUTHMOD collaboration a stand-alone tax-benefit microsimulation for Uganda, UGAMOD was built in collaboration with colleagues at the Uganda Revenue Authority and Makerere University. UGAMOD is freely available for non-commercial research and analytical work. More information about the model, including how to obtain it, and supporting documentation is available here.
