Simone Schotte is a an applied microeconomist with research interests in development and labour economics, working specifically at the interface of poverty, inequality, and employment dynamics research. She joined UNU-WIDER as Research Associate in February 2019. Before coming to Helsinki, she worked at the German Institute for Global and Area Studies (GIGA) and was a consultant to the World Bank. She holds a PhD in economics from the University of Göttingen, Germany, where she was a member of the Globalization and Development (GlaD) research training group.
Samar Abdelmageed | Presenter
Samar Abdelmageed is an assistant lecturer at the British University in Egypt. She graduated from the Faculty of Economics and Political Science, Cairo University. She obtained her master’s degree in International Business Administration from Ajou University, South Korea. She is currently a PhD student majoring in finance at Ain Shams University, Egypt. Samar has previously worked as a statistical researcher at the Egyptian Cabinet’s Information and Decision Support Center.

Francisca Pereyra is based at the National University of General Sarmiento. She does research on Gender and Labour Studies. Francisca has extensively studied the situation of care workers in Argentina, with particular emphasis on domestic service. She currently directs the project "Platform Economy and Personal Services in the Buenos Aires Metropolitan Area. Implications on working conditions and gender inequalities"

Adnan Fakir | Presenter
Adnan M. S. Fakir is a PhD Candidate in Economics at the University of Western Australia. Adnan obtained his MSc from the University of Sussex and BSc from BRAC University. His research interests are in health economics, gendered household dynamics, and female empowerment. He also works as a consultant for the Social Protection and Jobs GP at The World Bank.
Minoru Higa | Presenter
Minoru Higa is a Ph.D. Student in Economics at Simon Fraser University (SFU). He got his B.A. in Economics from Pontificia Universidad Catolica del Peru (PUCP), and his Master's in Economics from University of California, Santa Barbara (USA) and Tilburg University (Netherlands). He has been a consultant for the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and the International Labour Organization (ILO). His fields of interests are Environmental, Labor, and Urban Economics.
