Parallel session
Gender discrimination and violence

Gender-based violence remains one of the most pressing concerns with a third of women across the world being victims of physical or sexual violence. Intimate partner violence is a frequent reality for significant proportions of women, especially in sub-Saharan Africa.

Similarly, armed conflicts impose a disproportionate toll on women and children. The detrimental effects of such violence are not only immediate but also have significant implications for intergenerational transmission in terms of health, education, and well-being more broadly defined.

This session will bring together academics and policy experts to share knowledge on gender inequalities and violence especially in fragile contexts, and ideas and ways forward to achieve female empowerment in areas of conflict.
