Managing natural resource wealth

The deadline for submissions is closed.

Natural resources typically bring hope for a brighter and prosperous future in developing countries. Yet, evidence and country experiences indicate that an abundance of natural resources is far from being a sufficient condition for economic development and poverty reduction. Some countries have been successful, many have encountered difficulties and, for some, resource wealth has been a curse.

UNU-WIDER invites proposals from qualified researchers for papers exploring the impact of natural resources, both renewable and non-renewable, on all aspects of development. We welcome papers from all disciplines, including economics, economic history, political science, geography, as well as others. Both empirical and theoretical papers are welcome. Empirical papers may be single-country case studies or comparisons of groups of countries; they may use historical evidence, survey data, cross and section/time series, experimental approaches, and other methods.

Offer

Proposals are welcome from researchers (individually or in groups) as well as non-profit organizations; in English, French, Portuguese, or Spanish. Applications from suitably qualified women and developing country candidates are particularly encouraged, as well early-career researchers (PhD candidates and recent post-doctoral researchers).

Submissions

Closed. Deadline for proposal submission was 30 April 2015 23:59 EET.
