Geoffrey Odundo | Chair
Mr. Odundo is the Chief Executive of the Nairobi Securities Exchange Plc (NSE), a position he has held for the last seven (8) years. He is an accomplished Investment Banker and has been in the financial services sector for the last 31 years holding senior roles in the Asset Management, Corporate Finance and Securities Trading. Mr. Odundo is a Director of the Central Depository and Settlement Corporation Limited; NSE Clear Limited and Trustee of the NSE Fidelity Funds. He is the Vice Chairman of the REITs Association of Kenya (RAK) and a past Director of the Association of Stock Exchanges of Africa (ASEA) as well as an ExCo member of EASEA.
Mr. Odundo is a Council Member of the African Africa Financial Industry Summit (AFIS), a Council Member of the Institute of Certified Financial Analysts (ICIFA), member of Working Committee of the World Federation of Exchanges (WFE) and a member of the Central Bank of Kenya’s Consolidated Fund for Debt Management (CFDDM) Committee. He holds a master’s degree in strategic management and an undergraduate degree in mathematics and economics and is an Advanced Management Program (AMP) graduate from Strathmore/IESE (Spain) Business School.
Monica Lambon-Quayefio | Presenter
Monica Lambon-Quayefio is an applied microeconomist whose research focuses on labour market issues in developing contexts, demographic economics with a focus on women and children’s welfare and digital innovations in agriculture.
Her recent work has focused on unpaid care work, inequality of opportunity, digital finance in agriculture, informal pensions and labour market inefficiencies. She is a research fellow at the Africa Centre of Excellence in Poverty and Inequality Research (ACEIR).
Rose Ngugi | Presenter
Dr Rose Ngugi is Executive Director, KIPPRA and Chair for Southern Voice, a network of 59 Think Tanks.
She was previously Senior Advisor in the Office of Executive Director, Africa Group 1, IMF; member of MPC Central Bank of Kenya and University of Nairobi, School of Economics. She holds a PhD from Business School Birmingham University, UK, and Masters and Bachelor’s degree in Economics from the University of Nairobi, Kenya.
Abrams Tagem | Presenter
Abrams M.E. Tagem is a Research Associate at UNU-WIDER. He holds a PhD in Economics and a master’s degree in Economic Development and Policy Analysis, both from the University of Nottingham, UK. He is an empirical development economist, with interests at the nexus of research, policy analysis and practice in taxation. Prior to his appointment at UNU-WIDER he was a public finance consultant with the World Bank. WIDER he was a public finance consultant with the World Bank.
At UNU-WIDER, his primary research focus on the role of effective and accountable institutions on taxation in developing countries, as well as other aspects influencing taxation. He is the research focal point for the GRD – Government Revenue Dataset and his research has been published in journals such as International Tax and Public Finance, Journal of Institutional Economics, South African Journal of Economics, among others.
Selim Raihan | Discussant
Dr Selim Raihan is a Professor at the Department of Economics, University of Dhaka, Bangladesh, and the Executive Director of the South Asian Network on Economic Modeling (SANEM). He is an Honorary Senior Research Fellow at the University of Manchester, UK.
He is a member of the Board of Directors, Global Development Network, editor of Thinking Aloud - a monthly digest from SANEM, Editorial Advisory Board Member of the Indian Journal of Labour Economics, Journal of Asian Economic Integration, and International Studies, and associate Editor of Journal of South Asian Development. His publications include more than 100 articles and 10 books.
