Parallel session
Mining, the environment and oil licensing

Parallel 3.4 | Room 3: Thursday, 7 September 2023: 11:00-12:30 (UTC+2)

Revenues from mining are a major revenue source and are expected to grow alongside growth in the demand for metals, and especially critical minerals, under the net zero transition. Mining taxation is a source of tension between governments and companies. Mining can also cause environmental damage. Moreover, carbon taxation will become increasingly important, and not just for the mining sector. This session explores the issues in: Zambia’s mining; marine mining (including of the seabed); and climate change and the role of taxation more broadly.
