UNU-WIDER at 40: The power of shared knowledge

In 2025, UNU-WIDER marks 40 years of advancing transformative research and bridging the gap between evidence and policy to address some of the world’s most pressing development challenges. The anniversary theme, The power of shared knowledge, celebrates the institute’s dedication to generating research that shapes policies in a world increasingly challenged by misinformation.

Since its founding in 1985, UNU-WIDER has become a cornerstone of the development economics research. This anniversary takes place at a pivotal moment in global development, as multilateral efforts intensify to address inequality, climate change, and sustainable growth, aligning with major global processes such as the Pact for the Future, the Fourth International Conference on Financing for Development, and the 2025 World Social Summit.

The year-long celebrations will feature a range of events, including a reception in Helsinki, a side event at the LDC Future Forum in Lusaka, and the WIDER Development Conference.
