New landscape of poverty

The global landscape of poverty has been changing quite dramatically during recent years. Since 1990 the proportion of people living on less than US$1.25 has fallen in every region, including sub-Saharan. There are estimates predicting that extreme poverty will be cut by half by 2015 and some have even declared ‘the end of poverty’.

Still, one billion people will be left in extreme poverty and helping them achieving a better life will be a huge challenge for aid donors.

In this animation we look at how aid is changing to fit the new landscape of poverty. The film is part of a series produced by UNU-WIDER with the programme 'ReCom–Research and Communication on Foreign Aid'. It can, for instance, be used when teaching students about aid and what it can help achieve.
