Kunal Sen at the UNDESA Expert Meeting on SME financing

Dr. Sen will speak during the first session of the event dedicated to overcoming barriers to SME financing. The session will discuss the current state of knowledge regarding structural barriers that undermine access to financing for SMEs in least developed countries (LDCs) and the related policy recommendations.

This will be an opportunity for Dr. Sen to present the surveys UNU-WIDER is running with SMEs in Mozambique where it has the Inclusive Growth in Mozambique programme. These surveys are unique in the LDC context and serve to understand socio-economic situations and experiences of shocks. 

About the Expert Meeting on SME financing

This event seeks to lay out strategic steps to effectively leverage the SME-sector's potential within LDCs by promoting coordinated efforts, sharing of good practices, and avoiding redundant actions among stakeholders. Furthermore, the event aims to offer concrete policy recommendations on addressing the "missing middle" in the lead up to the 4th International Financing for Development Conference in July 2025.
