MOZMOD presentation makes national news
On 3 July, the Ministry of Economy and Finance of Mozambique presented the MOZMOD in an public event in Maputo. The tax-benefit microsimulation model has been developed for Mozambique in cooperation with the Directorate of Economic and Financial Studies (DEEF) of the Ministry of Economy and Finance and the Southern African Social Policy Research Institute (SASPRI) based in South Africa. MOZMOD is one of a series of tax-benefit microsimulation models created for developing countries through the SOUTHMOD project.
Researchers presented examples of simulations created using MOZMOD, the results of which could prove useful in designing and influencing social protection policies. The model was presented to policy makers, government officials, development practitioners, media and civil society with the aim of demonstrating how this highly versatile tool can help to formulate better social policies for inclusive growth.
The event was opened by Enilde Sarmento, Deputy Director of the Directorate of Economic and Financial Studies of the Ministry of Economy and Finance, and was closed by the Domingos Lambo, Permanent Secretary from the Ministry of Economy and Finance.
This initiative is a collaboration between the Ministry of Economy and Finance of Mozambique, the United Nations University World Institute for Development Economics Research (UNU-WIDER), and the Southern African Social Policy Research Institute (SASPRI) and is part of the ongoing Inclusive Growth in Mozambique programme.
