Presentation of MOZMOD – a tax-benefit microsimulation model for Mozambique
The Ministry of Economy and Finance will, together with the United Nations University World Institute for Development Economics Research (UNU-WIDER), the Southern African Social Policy Research Institute (SASPRI) and ILO Mozambique, launch a tax-benefit microsimulation model called MOZMOD on 3 July 2019.
The MOZMOD model has been developed in cooperation with staff from the Directorate of Economic and Financial Studies (DEEF) of the Ministry of Economy and Finance and SASPRI, based in South Africa, in the context of a project called SOUTHMOD.
The objective of SOUTHMOD, implemented in collaboration with UNU-WIDER, the Institute for Social and Economic Research (ISER) at the University of Essex in UK, and SASPRI, is to promote tax-benefit microsimulation modeling in developing countries using the EUROMOD tax-benefit microsimulation software.
The EUROMOD platform has been developed by Professor Holly Sutherland and colleagues over 20 years through funds from the European Commission. Mozambique is one of the first developing countries to use the software.
The MOZMOD launch event will be followed by a 2.5-day training of key end users identified from the Government of Mozambique.
For more information about the model, including how to access and use it, is available here.
